Encounter the Gospel of Life is a one week service trip at the University of Maryland, College Park. Youth groups from Maryland and oston unite and take part in acts of community service. St. Mary's Parish s the only youth group from Boston to participate in this week of service, ed by Sal Caraviello, to would not be jssible to have that "crazy group of ds from Boston"to travel all the ay to Maryland. This trip assigns sens to different "sites" in the most nfortunate parts of Washington D.C. nd Maryland. Even though the the ood was awful and the rooms were not air-conditioned, it made the family that prays together, stay together."

Expedition to Ecuador Service Trip By, Chloe Georgaklis
Exactly two years ago, 1 6 students, from Winchester High School, including me, signed up to go on a service trip to Ecuador. Not knowing what we were getting ourselves into, we all met for our first meeting to get a feel for who we were about to go on this adventure with. Not knowing it then, I would form some of the closest relationships that I could have never imagined.

The trip was amazing. The first couple days in the new country was a culture shock. The people, music, and food were so different that it took a while to get used to. We flew into Quito and from there, started our journey. From being woken up by roosters and cows, to sheep and Llamas, we learned how to cope in the different climates of the hills and volcanoes to the Amazon Rain Forest. Then, through the Amazon and white water rafting on the Napo River we left for our community service part. After spending a week with the village, covered in paint, we were sad to leave for we made many close friendships with the children we met in the community. Afterwards, we went to the markets which were filled with bright native clothing and the smell of steaming meat.
Many landslides came our way, figuratively and literally, but as a group we had to figure out how to get around them. That is one of the most important assets i acquired from the trip and I learned to live in the moment because you never know when you are going to leave, t my passion working with the kids may have opened a road for me in the future. The whole culture experience and morals learned on the trip will stay with us forever.

Sponsored by the Winchester Youth Center and run by the peer leaders, R4Y is a great place for people to hang out on a Friday night, and gives bands who normally wouldn't get to play for a audience a chance to showcase their talent .

Boeing Boeing is the non-stop comedy performed by the members of 'Curtain and Cue'. Directed by Jenna DiTullio and Carol Alexander, this play is centered in Paris,
France during the 1960's. There, in the city, an architect by the name Bernard (Cam Schmidt) juggles three fiancees, all of whom are air hostesses. The American- Janet (Christina O'Neil), the French- Jacqueline (Grace Burchard), and the German- Judith (Jenna Bittner) all arrive and leave the apartment thinking that they are thp- only ones. As Herff Jones motto says “We speak yearbook.” We literally do. For the entire school year, the 30 dedicated staff members ranging from Freshmen to Seniors work hard to publish a book that will be referenced for years to come! We spend all year, writing articles, taking pictures, doing layout and having fun all at the same time so that when you look back on your high school years, your memories will come rushing back! We put as much time into this book as a varsity sport. Unlike sports, when practices end, you go home. With yearbook, the work doesnt end until March 1, when our book goes to print. Lead by Editor in Chief, senior, Erin Mayo and adviser Mrs. Baker, the book would not be possible without our fabulous staff who work tirelessly to create publication that will forever be tied to the culture of WHS. We are dedicated to what we do and we love it more than anything! PROTESTS ACROSS THE MIDDLE EAST brought changes to Arab nations large and small. Uprisings began in Tunisia, where, as 2010 ended, a young vendor protesting the confiscation of his wares set himself on fire. Discontent spread to Egypt and Yemen as 2011 began, and in the months that followed those governments and leaders from Bahrain, Libya and Syria were under siege. By year's end, the presidents of Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen had stepped down and Libya's Moammar Gadhafi and his son Mutassim had been assassinated. Tunisians went to the polls in October 2011 and the Egyptian election took place just a month later. The protests continued despite high costs: thousands of lives (5,000 in Syria alone) and billions of dollars were lost.

WAVES OF CHANGE Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who had been in power since 1981, was ousted in 2011.
He was later put on trial for allegedly ordering the killing of protesters. COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PITTED PLAYERS AGAINST OWNERS in both the NBA and NFL Sports fans feared the worst but both leagues were able to agree in time to save most of their regular seasons.
In the NBA, the focus was primarily on cutting player salaries to help struggling teams. Both sides remained far apart on just about every major issue. They settled in late November, agreeing to a 66-game schedule, with the first games set for Christmas Day, cutting two weeks off the regular season. The NFL lockout lasted from March 11 to July 25. Once an agreement was reached, the players won additional benefits; the continuation of a 16-game regular season schedule, improvements in player safety and increased injury protection. Almost as soon as an agreement was reached, trades, deals, cuts and contracts were made.
